A discussion about local food system planning and land use considerations in Chattanooga, drawing on lessons from nearby cities Join the Chattanooga Design Studio and Crabtree Farms for a panel discussion about urban agriculture and local food system planning. We are excited to host featured guest speaker Sarah Brown, a food system policy expert from Atlanta, Georgia who will share her expertise in urban agriculture planning with city planning departments in the metro Atlanta region. (See Sarah's full bio below.) Sarah will be joined by community member and seasoned local food system advocate, Bill Rush, who will offer his perspectives on the current status of the local food movement in Chattanooga. The discussion will be moderated by Melonie Lusk, Executive Director of Crabtree Farms. SARAH BROWN is currently the Policy and Advocacy Manager at Food Well Alliance. She leads the organization's engagement with local governments throughout the metro Atlanta area, using data and storytelling to advocate for inclusive policies and programs that strengthen the local food system. She recently managed the adoption of the Southeast region's first-every City Agriculture Plan in East Point, GA in partnership with several local stakeholders. She also co-facilitates the Atlanta Community Compost Council with the Georgia Recycling Coalition, leading efforts to expand infrastructure, training, and awareness around community composting operations. Prior to joining Food Well Alliance, Sarah served as an Americorps VISTA with Hunger Free America and as a Client Service Manager at Willis Towers Watson. She is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and received a Masters of Food and Agricultural Law and Policy from Vermont Law School. The Chattanooga Design Studio is an independent, non-profit community resource that works to enhance Chattanooga’s quality of life by educating the community about, advocating for and facilitating excellent urban design.
