MARLBOROUGH, MA — A 33-year-old Marlborough man attracted the attention of local and federal law enforcement after making threats against public figures and a media outlet, leading to a large weapons seizure at his apartment this week, according to officials.
Local police and the FBI searched the Highland Street home of Colin Calabrese, 33, on Wednesday before arresting him on dozens of counts of weapons law violations, including possession of a large capacity firearm, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.
Police seized a large quantity of ammunition from his home, plus rifles, shotguns and a bulletproof vest.
According to Ryan, Calabrese threatened to bomb an unnamed major media outlet, plus threatened "public figures, politicians, entities and law enforcement agencies." The threats were made in June 2020 and June 2021, and referenced the use of guns, Ryan said.
Calabrese has lived in multiple states in recent years, including Missouri, Illinois and New York, and was a chemist, according to public records.
Calabrese was ordered held ahead of an Oct. 20 dangerousness hearing after an arraignment at Marlborough District Court on Thursday.
