LONG BEACH — A dozen students have enrolled in a special COVID-related maskless program that the Long Beach School District is offering parents, the Long Beach Herald reports.
The virtual alternate instructional program is held daily for two hours, from 3 to 5 p.m., for students whose parents decided they don't want their children attending classes wearing masks.
The remote program was established after about 200 parents at a Board of Education meeting at Lindell School in August protested mask-wearing. The trustees voted, 4-1, to abide by Gov. Kathy Hochul's mask-wearing mandate for New York schools, according to the Herald.
Long Beach students have participated in-person, virtual and hybrid classes during the pandemic.
