NAUGATUCK, CT — Election Day is approaching fast, and a number of key positions in Naugatuck will be on the ballot. To help readers make an informed decision on Nov. 2, Patch has reached out to local candidates to share their views on various topics of importance in the borough. Patch will post these candidate profiles over the next couple of weeks, so check back often to see the latest. Republican Robert A Neth, 63, is running for Burgess. Occupation: Family: I put bio at bottom What else would you like voters to know about you? Occupation: Local Business Owner Married: Joan D. Neth (41 years) 3 Children: Robert Jr. 40 yrs old, Rebecca 37 yrs old, Kimberly 32 yrs old. All graduated Naugatuck High School Education: Thomaston High School Graduate 1976, 2 Yrs. Waterbury State Technical School. Experience: Finance Board 1989-1997, Chairman for 6 yrs. Elected Burgess 1997 – present (current 2nd Deputy Mayor) I'm running for office to make Naugatuck a better place to live and take a common sense approach to government. I'm fair, honest, consistent and an independent thinker on all issues. One major goal in next 2 yrs is to build the grand list. Specific steps to increase EDC in Naugatuck is getting the Port of Naugatuck approved this would be a grand slam for the borough. Development of Parcel B, Parcel A/GDC building, Sale of town buildings on Rubber Ave and add to grand list. The development of the old Risdon Property. Continue to work with NEDC in getting Peter Paul property developed. As a member of the NEDC I have frontline exposure to these projects. These projects are the avenue that will reduce the mill rate and taxes that impact the residents. What issues do not get enough attention. Not sure there are issues. People like to complain about roads, taxes, decisions that are made. How to solve. We are working on roads, there is a 5-year plan on road work and not everyone is happy unless their road is done. When the grand list grows the mill rate will decrease and lower your taxes. Decisions made by burgesses on important issues are taken very seriously and there is a lot of discussion made to come to the right decision at that time. There are a lot of Monday morning QB's that will question us, but they have no info on why we make the decision. My message to voters is: 30 different sub-committees that have made a difference in the Borough, always working hard for the residence in the Borough. The following are a few committees that I am chairman of: Naugatuck Standing Building Committee Naugatuck High School Renovation Project (under budget and on time) 5 yr Capital Committee (Instrumental in improvements to the schools and town projects) Renewable Energy Committee Sport Complex committee Member of the Long Term Planning Committee Liaison to the Park Department and Finance Department. Community service: 30+ yrs in youth sports, and including 25 yrs as Senior Babe Ruth coach and League President Housatonic Valley SBR
