Patch will post these candidate profiles over the next couple of weeks, so check back often to see the latest. Republican Helen Northrup, 48, is running for Tax Collector in Naugatuck. Occupation: Tax Collector Family:We are a family of 8. Our oldest son serves in the United States Army It's 27 are our 2nd oldest son is it in attending and playing football for Anna-Maria college in Massachusetts and our last 4 are all attending Naugatuck Schools The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: Working to lower taxes. I promise to be a State Certified Tax Collector that is present in the office to personally assist the taxpayer with any issues. I will from day one follow all federal and state guidelines and laws. Critical differences between me and my opponents: I have made a campaign promise to complete the state required Tax Collector certification offered by CCMC (state code Sec 12-130a) by the end of my first term.I already reached out to the certification group to see if I was able to take the first class before the election to show the voters in Naugatuck that this was a promise I intend to complete. Unfortunately, they told me I had to wait until after the election to take any of the classes or tests. Within the first weeks after being elected, and I will begin the certification program. Accomplishments: I have manage million dollars Restaurants. I was a training general manager sent in to problem solve and open/reopen restaurants. My responsibilities were schedules for staff, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and I was responsible for thousands of dollars in inventory and keeping a positive growing balance with the bottom line. Other issues: I will share more during the question and answer session on the green in Naugatuck this weekend at 2pm. Please come out. Make sure you get out and vote November 2! What else would you like voters to know about you? I promise as the Tax Collector to be a present in the office to manage, to assist the staff and to help tax payers with any issues. I will work closely with the town mayor, and our town burgesses and the surrounding Chambers of Commerce to grow new businesses in the town of Naugatuck. I along with the staff will work to improve and run a more efficient Garnet and Gray Naugatuck tax office.
