POOLESVILLE, MD — A homeowner in Poolesville shot and killed a man who entered his house, Montgomery County Police said. Cops say the homeowner was on the phone with 911 on Oct. 11 around 9 a.m., and shot the man — who had gotten into the house — while he was on the phone.
Police say that the man who was killed was Harry Trueman Powell, age 34, of Washington, D.C. and that it appeared he had been staying in the basement without the owner knowing. The two men did not know each other police said.
Police say no charges will be filed against the homeowner, and the incident is still being investigated.
Fox 5 DC reported that they talked to the homeowner's father, who said that his son had just returned home from a wedding on Saturday, and on Monday was making his coffee when he saw Powell out of his window.
Powell's family told Fox 5 they didn't understand why he would have been at that house, which he has no connection to.
