Happy Friday, San Antonio! Here's everything happening today in town. First, today's weather: Breezy in the afternoon. High: 86 Low: 51. Here are the top stories in San Antonio today: After nearly half a century, a popular local bakery is soon to become just a sweet memory. Los Cocos Bakery, located at 3309 West Ave., is closing its doors on Friday, Oct. 15. The sweets shop, owned by Raymond Torres, opened in August 1973 with a mix of "European recipes with pan dulce offerings." Before Los Cocos, Torres owned several bakeries in Mexico, where he's from. When he moved to the U.S., he worked at Trinity University's cafeteria and then landed a job at Mrs. Schneider's Cake Shop, owned by Mildred Schneider. When she closed her shop in 1967, "she trusted Torres with some of her most-beloved recipes," and so Los Cocos Bakery was born! The rest is history! Drop by on Friday for dessert and to bid the Torres family a sweet farewell. For more on Los Cocos and the Torres family, visit: (mySanAntonio.com) San Antonio native Britta Merwin, and former Houston meteorologist, will soon be seen on FOX television. Beginning Oct. 5, she "will be part of FOX Weather, FOX News Media's 24/7 streaming weather service." She was very excited when she "found out that FOX was creating a personal weather experience with the best of the best technology and weather presentation" and even more when the network reached out to her. She says "helping others is important to her, another reason this opportunity means so much." San Antonio-based Twang partnered with Fort Worth-based Martin House Brewing Company to create a mango chili beer called "Twang-a-Rang." With an alcohol content of 6.5 percent, the limited edition beer "has an initial sweet mango profile followed by chili and salt notes" and is "brewed with mango flavoring, mango puree and a blend of salts and spices."
