PRINCETON, NJ – The Municipality will hold its annual shredding and electronics recycling event on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 100 Thanet Circle. Princeton residents can drop off their recycling from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Broken items, commercial discards and construction debris will not be accepted at the event. All kinds of electronics, household goods, and home-use medical equipment will be accepted. You can also donate your unwanted bike, and NJ Bike Exchange will fix it and donate it. Here's what not to bring to the event: Rugs or carpeting Paint, chemicals, batteries Oil, railroad ties, asbestos Tires, air conditioners, refrigerators/freezers Helium/oxygen tanks, wood, fencing Medical waste, household trash, couches Microwaves, construction or re-modeling debris, mattresses/box springs However, Sustainable Princeton will be on-site to collect items from recycling and upcycling. They will be collecting: Batteries: All types of batteries from handheld devices will be reused or recycled through Wireless Alliance. Corroded batteries, car or other large batteries will not be accepted. Battery ends must be sealed with clear tape to prevent electrical discharge during shipping. Styrofoam and peanuts: Packaging styrofoam will be accepted. They should be brought in a closed bag to prevent debris during transportation! Do not place other items in these bags. Plates, cups, egg cartons, or take-out boxes will not be accepted. Cell phones and tablets: Cell phones and tablets, as well accessories, can be refurbished or shredded for precious metals reclamation by Wireless Alliance. Wine corks: Synthetic or natural corks will be accepted. The municipality is following COVID-19 protocol for the event. There is a limit of one person per vehicle. All residents must remain in their vehicles with their windows closed. Disposal items should be placed in the trunk or back of the vehicle and not in the passenger seat.
