MENIFEE, CA — One of the fatalities in a Wednesday evening crash in Menifee has been identified as a 1-year-old boy.
Legend Aries Girard of San Jacinto died at the crash scene around 5:30 p.m. on Domenigoni Parkway, just east of Lindenberger Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau.
A second victim died in the wreckage, but an identity has not yet been released.
According to a preliminary police report, around 5:22 p.m. a Chevrolet pickup truck driver was towing a trailer and was side-swiped by a Ford pickup truck as both vehicles were heading west on Domenigoni Parkway. The collision caused the Chevy and trailer to overturn, ejecting two children in the process; both died at the scene.
The Ford driver, an 18-year-old man, was uninjured. Jail records show he was booked into Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence. He was released in lieu of $7,500 bail and is due to appear in court in January.
Drugs and/or alcohol were not believed to be crash factors, according to police.
The Menifee Police Department reported that both directions of Domenigoni Parkway were closed during the crash investigation, between Leon Road and Laguna Vista Drive, but were reopened several hours later.
