LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A statewide school walkout is being planned for Monday by social media groups protesting vaccine and mask mandates for schoolchildren levied by Gov. Gavin Newsom. Now, Orange County school districts and families are making plans in advance of the peaceful protest.
Will Laguna Beach Unified School District students and staff stay or will they go?
In Huntington Beach parents shared a flyer on a local community Facebook forum that explained the statewide school walkout's plan.
It asks all Orange County school districts to respect parental rights and join the local community "in opposition to the unlawful and unconstitutional" California mandates on mask-wearing + COVID-19 vaccination for school children.
In Huntington Beach, the peaceful protest will continue out on the Huntington Beach pier at 10 a.m. In Yorba Linda, flyers were also handed out at a local school board meeting which were met with mixed reviews, according to those present.
Patch has reached out to Orange County school districts from Capistrano, Laguna Beach Unified, Los Alamitos, Newport Mesa, and Saddleback Valley for their stance on the organized walkouts and will update our report with their responses when received.
This statewide organized protest is the latest move by parents and voters dissatisfied with both on-campus mask-wearing and vaccine mandates in California schools.
