$16M Police Headquarters Unveiled In Cobb County

COBB COUNTY, GA — The Cobb County Police Department cut the ribbon on its new multi-million dollar home last week, thanks to the hard work of county staff, public safety officials and the 2016 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax fund. Cobb public safety leaders and Cobb County commissioners held the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new headquarters last Thursday, located on Fairground Street in Marietta. The building, a former credit union, underwent $16 million in renovations, paid for using the 2016 voter-approved SPLOST funds. The new building enabled the department to reduce office crowding — Cobb police Chief Tim Cox said he was using "every nook and cranny" in the old building — and consolidate sections such as records, permitting, crimes against persons unit, internal affairs unit, technology-based crimes and command staff. These sections were previously scattered at different buildings in the county. "We are, as far as I'm concerned, entering into a new era for this police department," Cox said during an unveiling of the new HQ. "A new building — a building that will meet our needs well into the future." Further improvements are ongoing, including the creation of a real-time crime center designed to consolidate information for officers in the field. A crime scene garage is also under construction behind the building. Both projects — which only two other metro Atlanta law enforcement agencies have — are expected to be completed in 2022.
