Tight, jazzy, proggy band seeks BANDLEADER

Meets

Portland OR

Description

We are double drummers, bass, guitar and sax looking for bandleader type to help write songs and whip the thing into shape. Doesn’t matter what instrument you play but ideally keys, guitar or a horn. Vocalist fine too. Only requirement is that you are a songwriter and either have material ready to play or are into writing for a band. We are a tight group rhythmically, able to learn songs quickly. Double drummers can lock in on the same thing or compliment each other with polyrhythms. Bass is pocket heavy but can stretch out playing lead and uses pedals tastefully. Guitarist is psychedelic and can get chordal and atmospheric or heavy and riffy, a great improviser. Sax is strong melodically, less of a lead player and more a harmonic compliment but can also play tight lines and move quick. We can all do weird chord changes, 7/4 and 5/4, relatively tricky passages, etc. We all come from the Portland underground rock / punk / weird and heavy scene but are getting old and want to play more melodically complex and less abrasive music. Jazzy, proggy, etc. Big fans of Miles Davis, David Axelrod, Soft Machine, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Osibisa, Ginger Baker’s Airforce, Europe 72 era Grateful Dead, more recent Oh Sees, etc So far we have mostly been working on covers and don’t have a clear songwriter. That’s where you come in! Shoot us a message if you think it will be a good fit or if you have any questions.
