The October 16 event, held rain or shine, will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The City's Department of Public Works will again partner with the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) to present this event, which attracts hundreds of people annually from throughout the greater Wilmington and New Castle County area.   "This is an environmentally responsible way for citizens to dispose of and recycle materials that could otherwise end up as trash and debris which could harm people or animals," said Mayor Purzycki. "I join with former Council Member Freel, who has led the fight for many years to reduce trash and litter in Wilmington, in thanking the DSWA for presenting this annual event and to all of the area residents who use this opportunity to safely dispose of electronic goods and toxic and dangerous materials that could otherwise end up as environmental hazards." Examples of the types of hazardous or electronic waste items that can be discarded are listed on the flyer attached to this news release. Please share the flyer with others and recycle with us on Saturday, October 16. The following guidelines also are presented to assist those interested in participating in this free event: Household Hazardous Waste: Product containers marked with words like "Warning: Hazardous," "Flammable," "Poisonous," "Corrosive," or "Explosive." For example: household cleaners, garden pesticides, oil-based paints only, nail polish, fluorescent bulbs, or antifreeze. Electronic Goods Recycling: Electronic equipment such as old computers, printer, CD players, microwaves, telephones, game boys, fax machines, answering machines, VCRs. Paper Shredding: Residents can bring up to 2 file boxes of personal confidential papers for shredding (e.g., financial and legal documents, receipts, tax and medical records).
