STAMFORD, CT — Bobby Valentine, the unaffiliated candidate for Mayor of Stamford, announced on Tuesday a fundraising milestone for his campaign. According to a news release, Valentine raised more than $520,000 from early May through Sept. 30, with more than 1,100 financial contributions from Stamford residents. This includes $230,000 in the third quarter of 2021. The campaign said support "is split almost evenly" between Democrats, Republicans and unaffiliated voters. "I'm humbled by the growing enthusiasm for our unaffiliated campaign to bring change to Stamford," Valentine said in a news release. "Running without the backing of a political party means that we've built our organization from scratch. We haven't received funding or data from a state or national party, a significant advantage for my opponent, who has also employed a full time fundraising operative since February." Valentine is going up against State Rep. Caroline Simmons (D-144) in the race for mayor. Simmons defeated outgoing Mayor David Martin in the Stamford Democratic Primary last month
