Braintree Teacher Depicts First 500 Days Of Pandemic In New Book

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree High School art director Heidi Hurley spent the first 500 days of the coronavirus pandemic drawing. Each day, she drew a picture, and she's since compiled them into a book, "One a Day. 500 Drawings. #CoronaArtChallenge." And soon, Hurley will host two book talks to discuss the purpose behind the book and her process in creating it. "Posted each day, the drawings not only shared what was going on in the author's life, imagination, and mind, but also provided an opportunity for the many friends, family members, and current and former students who shared artwork in return to connect both socially and artistically during a time when that was next to impossible," Principal Christopher Scully said. The two presentations are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 21 in the high school auditorium. One will be at 3 p.m., while the other is at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome, but school officials reminded the community masks are required inside Braintree High School. Hurley said book sale proceeds will go towards a scholarship for a Braintree High School student pursuing the arts.
