Woodbridge Teen Dies After Manassas Car Crash: Police

MANASSAS, VA — A 17-year-old boy from Woodbridge died after a car crash in Manassas on Tuesday evening, according to the Prince William County Police Department. A 14-year-old boy who was a passenger in the same car also suffered minor injuries. The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12 in the 12500 block of Purcell Road in Manassas. Authorities said it was a single-vehicle crash. Through their initial investigation, officials with the police department determined that the 17-year-old was driving a 2004 Acura LX northwest on Purcell Road. In an update, police said the vehicle was travelling "at a high rate of speed." "The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle which then left the roadway and struck a ditch causing the vehicle to roll several times," the Prince William County Police Department said. "The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle." The 14-year-old male passenger in the Acura was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He suffered minor injuries. The passenger and an acquaintance who was driving behind the Acura took the injured 17-year-old to a nearby hospital, police said. The injured boy later died as a result of his injuries. The identity of the deceased driver has not been released by the police department, in accordance with a Virginia law designed to protect the identities of those under the age of 18. Authorities did say that the 17-year-old driver of the Acura and the 14-year-old passenger were from Woodbridge.
