DANBURY, CT — The state Municipal Election is Tuesday, Nov. 2. Patch contacted candidates to answer questions about their campaigns. Democrat Joseph DaSilva, Jr., 51, is running for Board of Education in Danbury. Occupation: Attorney Family:Married to Dawn; father of Lauren (12) and Ryan (9) Experience: Board of Education Family in government: no The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: Danbury schools face two significant challenges: overcrowding and lack of proper resources from the City of Danbury. We've begun to address overcrowding of the last two years (New Pre-K Center, Ellsworth Ave School Annex, and Career Academy) but we need to keep up the momentum. We also have to press the City of Danbury to allocate the proper resources to the schools. Danbury is 169 out of 169 towns in the State in terms of per pupil spending - that is not acceptable. Critical differences between me and my opponents: Over the last two years, I believe I have demonstrated a commitment to working hard, and more importantly, to working with everyone, and to address the issues facing the Danbury schools Accomplishments: As an attorney by trade, I advocate for clients every day - advocating and fighting for our kids is, to me, and a natural extension of that work. Other issues: Funding and overcrowding are really the central parts of my campaign as most every issues facing the Danbury schools intersects with one or both of those issues. What else would you like voters to know about you? I'm a proud graduate of the Danbury public schools. My kids attend the public schools and are receiving a great education with wonderful teachers.
