Driver Dies After Airborne Vehicle Lodges In Tree: Police

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A 27-year-old Upper Marlboro man died Wednesday morning after his black Lincoln LS overturned in the center median of northbound Route 301/Crain Highway at Excalibur Road in Bowie, went airborne and became lodged in a tree approximately 20 feet off the ground. According to Maryland State Police, the incident occurred shortly after midnight. Devonte Quasie-Woode was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. While at the scene of the accident, Maryland State Police spoke with the driver of a white Mercedes GLK, Zalika Murray, 38, of Oxon Hill. Murray had pulled over in the crossover on Route 301 to wait for police. Murray told police she was traveling in lane two and a red car was traveling in lane one when the black Lincoln LS attempted to travel between them. She told police the red car then merged into her lane and struck the driver's side of her Mercedes. The red car did not stop and continued to travel northbound on Route 301. All northbound lanes on Route 3 at Excalibur Road in Bowie were shut down for almost six hours.
