Driver Who Pinned Deputy Charged With Attempted Murder: Sheriff

EDGEWOOD, MD — An Edgewood man has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses after officials said he intentionally crashed into a deputy Tuesday night and led police on a chase that ended at the Maryland House rest area off Interstate 95. Martin Tyson Bradley, 34, of the 1900 block of Edgewater Drive in Edgewood, was charged with traffic offenses as well as three felonies — attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and assault on a police officer — court records show. Authorities say the incident began in the 1800 block of Eloise Lane in Edgewood, where a fight was reported at 6:52 p.m. Deputies were not able to locate a fight, but Senior Deputy J. Amrein said that while talking to a witness, he saw a vehicle he thought may have been involved. The driver — later identified as Bradley — pointed his vehicle at the deputy and accelerated, hitting and pushing him until he was pinned against another vehicle, authorities reported. Deputies tried to intervene, according to authorities, who said Bradley sped off. Amrein was taken to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for minor injuries and has since been released, authorities reported Wednesday. He is assigned to the Crime Suppression Unit and has been a member of the sheriff's office since October 2010. One person was in the vehicle Bradley hit; officials said that driver declined to be taken to the hospital. Deputies and medical personnel gave Bradley Narcan due to a potential overdose, and he was taken by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He had been treated and released to the custody of the Harford County Sheriff's Office Wednesday afternoon. Bradley is being held without bail on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless endangerment and other related traffic charges. Following the crashes, I-95 north was closed at exit 80 from about 7:40 to about 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority. During the investigation, the sheriff's office reported traffic personnel reconstructed events that led to the crashes.
