SANTA MONICA, CA — An ocean water use warning was issued Wednesday for several beaches in and near Santa Monica. "The warning has been issued due to bacterial levels exceeding health standards when last tested," public health officials said. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health warned swimmers and surfers before going in the ocean water to be careful at the following areas: The Bel Air Bay Club at Will Rogers State Beach (Santa Monica South Tower 20)Santa Monica Pier in Santa MonicaPico-Kenter storm drain at Santa Monica BeachMother's Beach in Marina Del ReyInner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro Both Mother's Beach in Marina del Rey and Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro have a similar problem, Nicole Mooradian from the County of Los Angeles Department of Beaches and Harbors told Patch. "In both places, bird feces have been identified as potential sources of bacteria," Mooradian said. It's still unclear if these bacteria levels are related to the Hyperion spill in July, or if it's unrelated. Both of these beaches are often on the warning list from the county, but that could be due to poor water circulation with little wave movement, Mooradian said. Recorded information on beach conditions is available 24-hours a day on the county's beach closure hotline: 1-800- 525-5662. Visit the website for information: PublicHealth.LACounty.gov/Beach/.
