NOVATO, CA — The Novato City Council during a special meeting Tuesday moved to fill an empty seat by appointment, and it's seeking candidates for the interim role.
The council voted unanimously to appoint a replacement for former District 5 Councilmember Amy Peele, who resigned last month, citing personal reasons.
The council chose appointing an interim councilmember over holding a Special Election.
The interim councilmember will hold office until next year's November Statewide General Election.
Prospective candidates must be Novato residents who live in District 5 (the district includes the Hamilton neighborhood and parts of southern Novato) and are at least 18 years of age who are registered voters.
To be considered for the role, candidates must submit a letter of interest and resume to the council by emailing [email protected].
The deadline to apply is Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.
The council will conduct interviews of eligible applicants during its regular Oct. 26 meeting.Interviews will be open to the public, and all application materials will be published with the city council meeting agenda.
The City Council is required by state election law to appoint an interim councilmember or call for a Special Election by Nov. 14.
