RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A 29-year-old Menifee woman killed early Sunday morning in a solo-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 215 has been identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau, and the California Highway Patrol said the vehicle she was riding in was piloted by a suspected drunken driver.
Hannah Marie Mesa died at the crash scene shortly before 2 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway, just south of Nuevo Road, in unincorporated area, according to the coroner.
Mesa was the vehicle's passenger, and she was discovered partially ejected in the wreckage, the CHP said.
"Alcohol is suspected to be a factor," the CHP reported.
According to the agency's preliminary report, the vehicle was traveling south on I-215 when the driver "failed to safely negotiate a curve in the roadway."
The vehicle veered into the dirt median, where it overturned and collided into a concrete bridge abutment on the I-215 northbound on-ramp from D Street, the CHP reported.
There was no word on the driver's medical condition and no arrests were announced.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the CHP Accident Investigation Unit at 951-637-8000.
