JOLIET, IL — A suspicious substance was discovered Wednesday night at the Joliet Police Station and that prompted members of the Joliet Fire Department HAZMAT team to converge in downtown Joliet to investigate the matter. The substance, according to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, was ultimately determined to be a harmless household powder.
Joliet's Robert Hernandez went to Washington Street to produce one of his popular Facebook Live videos for his followers. Hernandez notified everyone that the streets near the police station were closed off to motorists as Joliet police and firefighters continued their investigation, which was still underway as of 9 p.m.
Hernandez said that the suspicious substance was found inside the front entrance doorway.
Around 9:15 p.m., the Joliet Fire Department informed everyone that the scene had been cleared and a couple of Joliet police evidence technicians were on the scene taking photos of the areas where the substance was located, Hernandez said.
