BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt. ARRESTS SUSPENDED/REVOKED LICENSE Christian N. Helke, 30, of the 1000 block of Cayuga Drive, Northbrook, is accused of driving on a suspended/revoked license, possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis, having a warrant from another police department, and was arrested at 11:20 p.m. Oct. 3, at Milwaukee Avenue and Columbus Parkway. DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE Leonardo Johnson Vasquez, 27, of the 700 block of Westmoreland Drive, is accused of aggravated driving under the influence, no driver's license, traffic lane usage, and was arrested at 1:54 a.m. Oct. 2, at Buffalo Grove and Church roads. He was assigned a court date of Oct. 20. LAST WEEK: Neighbor Watches 'Inappropriate Movies' With Blinds Open INCIDENTS THEFT A resident in the 100 block of Lilac Lane reported at 1:15 a.m. Oct. 3, her mailbox was stolen during the early morning. ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY A person called police at 4:15 p.m. Oct. 3, to report seeing new damage to a vehicle while it was parked in the Jewel-Osco parking lot, 70 S. Buffalo Grove Road. RETAIL THEFT A person left Smokey's Tobacco Discount, 25 N. Buffalo Grove Road, at 7:15 p.m. Oct. 4, with a vape they didn't pay for. At the store clerk's request, the officer left a message for the person advising them they are not allowed back in the store. An employee of a business in the 1500 block of E. Deerfield Parkway reported at 12:44 p.m. Oct. 7, a female let the store without paying for about $100 worth of items. Security at Woodman's Grocery, 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway called police at 9:37 a.m. Oct. 2, to report a male customer walked out without paying for items totaling $140. The person was issued an adjudication ticket and a trespass warning. SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT A resident of the 150 block of Buffalo Grove Road reported at 3:30 a.m. Oct. 5, they saw a tow truck attempting to tow his vehicle. The resident confronted the drive and told him he has a residential parking permit. The tow truck driver subsequently left the lot without the vehicle. NOISE COMPLAINT Police received a 911 call at 11:43 p.m. Oct. 6, regarding a vehicle in the parking lot playing loud music in the 800 block of Trace Drive. Officers contacted the vehicle's occupants, who agreed to turn down the music. While conversing with the driver, the officer detected the odor of cannabis. The occupants willingly gave the officer the small amount of cannabis and several unopened cans of beer, which were processed for destruction. The officer spoke to the vehicle's driver about what happened, and no citations were issued. DECEPTIVE PRACTICE A 911 caller from Johnson Drive reported at 1 p.m. Oct. 6, he was the victim of a fraud/gift card scam. Officers spoke with the caller who stated that he received a fraud alert on his "Amazon" account and followed the prompts to log onto his account. He then contacted a female "representative," who informed him that he needed to purchase a gift card to assist with tracking the individuals who make the purchase. He complied, and then became suspicious when they asked him to purchase additional cards and ended the call. DISOBEYING OFFICER Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a moving violation at 12:43 a.m. Oct. 2, at Dundee and Buffalo Grove roads. They contacted the driver and he provided them with his driver's license. While officers were speaking to him, he drove away at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue and will follow up since they know the driver's identity. FOUND PROPERTY A girl's bicycle was found at 11:25 p.m. Oct. 2, at Willow Grove School, 777 Checker Drive, and was turned over to the police department, where it is being stored in hopes an owner is located.
