Description

AGOURA HILLS, CA — A new lawsuit against the Los County Department of Animal Care and Control alleges the department has been evading laws to protect vulnerable impounded animals and unnecessarily euthanizing animals that could be saved, The Acorn reported. The lawsuit references examples from the department's Agoura Hills location, one of the department's six animal shelters in the county. The law referenced in the suit is the Hayden Act, which requires that shelters turn over animals scheduled for euthanasia to nonprofit animal rescue and adoption centers. The department has enforced "burdensome procedural requirements" for nonprofits to save these animals, the suit claims, and has wrongfully used "behavioral issues" as a justification for euthanizing animals requested by nonprofits.
