TUCSON, AZ — Border Patrol agents seized more than 50 pounds of what they suspected to be fentanyl pills Monday at the I-19 immigration checkpoint near Amado in Santa Cruz County, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Agents arrested the 33-year-old driver of a pickup truck at the checkpoint and transferred her to the custody of the Drug Enforcement Administration, according to the news release. Her name was not released to the public, but officials said she was a United States citizen. Border protection says that the woman was driving a pickup truck through the checkpoint when a drug sniffing dog alerted them to the possibility of drugs in the truck. Agents also used imaging technology to find a hidden compartment in the bed of the truck filled with packages of blue pills, according to the release.
