WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police arrested a Douglas man Wednesday morning after a violent carjacking along Shrewsbury Street.
According to police, a cab driver picked up a 32-year-old man near the intersection of Draper and Shrewsbury streets around 8:30 a.m. After getting in the car, the man began strangling and punching the cabbie, and may have pulled out a knife, police said.
The cabbie was forced out of a vehicle about a block away along Imperial Place. The cab was found nearby at the Honey Farms store near the intersection of Belmont and Shrewsbury streets, but then police were alerted to another report of a stolen vehicle along Lyon Street.
When police found the second stolen vehicle, they arrested the driver on charges of armed assault to rob, armed robbery, assault and battery, larceny of a motor vehicle an using a vehicle without authority.
