Description

This month, Kenwood Gardens is hosting Grown Folks Stories from 5pm-8pm, on Thursday, October 21st! In the heart of Greater Grand Crossing, Rebuild Foundation has reactivated 13 vacant city lots and transformed them into an outdoor oasis for artists and neighbors. Kenwood Gardens is a creative refuge, biophilic haven and neighborhood green space right here on the South Side. Demonstrating the impact of ambitious cultural initiatives, the gardens serve as a hub for live performances, yoga, outdoor meeting and dining space, and artist residencies. The grounds and the gardens, which were planted with the help of community members, local horticulturists and landscape architects, are home to native and regionally appropriate plant life, creating a sanctuary rooted in sustainability for visitors and local wildlife. Kenwood Gardens exemplifies the power, the potential and the importance of Black space. This month, Kenwood Gardens is hosting Grown Folks Stories from 5pm-8pm, on Thursday, October 21st! An hour earlier than usual, but for good reason... enjoy a live jazz performance at Retreat at The Currency Exchange Cafe right after, from 8pm-9pm! Grown Folks Stories is two hours of five minute stories that range from the hilarious to the absolutely somber. Join this ever-popular gathering of nonprofessional, unrehearsed storytellers, who give us the real stories we live everyday. There is no theme, no judging, no poetry, no readings. EVERY THIRD THURSDAY OF THE MONTH! Created by Cara Brigandi and Eric Williams, Founder of the Silverroom, and hosted by Whitney Capps. View LIVE on our Youtube Channel, Facebook Live & Twitch!
