Description

Join local nonprofit leaders, philanthropists, and AFP Santa Barbara and Ventura to celebrate the incredible impact of the 2021 Honorees. Who? Join local nonprofit leaders, philanthropists, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties Chapter to celebrate the incredible impact of the 2021 Honorees, and all the good that we are able to achieve when we come together. What? Philanthropy is “the love of humankind,” and National Philanthropy Day® (NPD) is the day that thousands of people around the world come together to put that word into action and to recognize the change that word has brought to our communities. NPD was originally conceived of and organized by Douglas Freeman in the 1980s, and the first official events held in 1986. NPD acknowledges the entire spectrum of services provided by the nonprofit community and recognizes the profound impact that philanthropy has on the fabric of society. Each year, AFP chapters around the nation honor individuals and groups who, through their hard work and dedication, have enhanced philanthropy, their communities, and the world. The purpose of this day is to recognize the great contributions of philanthropy—and those people active in the philanthropic community—to the enrichment of our world. Funds raised at this event are invested back into our sector by supporting the AFPSBV’s education, networking, mentoring, and advocacy activities. Why? First held locally in 1987, National Philanthropy Day recognizes the great contributions of philanthropy - and those people active in the philanthropic community who have enriched our world. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and all that is has made possible. 2021 Honorees Philanthropist of the Year – Santa Barbara: Elisabeth Fowler Philanthropist of the Year – Ventura: Ellen Brokaw Volunteer of the Year – Santa Barbara: Lucille Boss Volunteer of the Year – Ventura: Susan Burgos Youth in Philanthropy: Jordan and Jaden Lind Professional Fundraiser of the Year: Stacy Swanson, CFRE Champions for Social Justice: Connie Alexander and Audrey Gamble, Founders, Gateway Educational Services Exceptional Achievement: Foothills Forever Donors and Volunteers Awards Ceremony Emcee: Ernesto Paredes, Executive Director, Easy Lift Transportation About AFP Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties The AFP Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties Chapter was founded in 1986. The greatest benefit, however, is a personal one: the opportunity to interact with other Chapter members and professionals, plus information sharing, mentoring, networking and other resources. About the AFP International The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) represents more than 30,000 members in over 230 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs.
