Join us November 6 for “Slide Into Christmas,” a basket raffle, movie night, snowball hunt, and holiday buffet. Join us down at the Bullpen in New Athens Saturday, November 6, 2021, for “Slide Into Christmas,” a basket raffle, movie night, snowball hunt, and appetizer buffet. Doors will open at 5:30 pm, with an appetizer buffet beginning at 6 pm. Following the buffet, the movie “A Christmas Story” will be shown. Be sure to wear your ugly Christmas sweater! We’ll give a major award to the one judged ugliest. At around 8:30 pm, a snowball hunt will take place across the street at Okaw Valley Park. Be sure to bring your flashlight! Participants will hunt for five plastic snowballs, whose numbers will be recorded and drawn to award several prizes, including the night’s grand prize. Two “major award” snowballs will also be hidden at the park. The lucky folks who find them will a win a guaranteed not to be “fra-gee-lay” prize of $50. The evening will also include a 50/50 drawing and a raffle of donated baskets and other items, including a lottery tree. Those interested will buy numbered tickets and then “spend” them however they want on chances to win one or more of the prizes. Reservations for the entire event are $20 per person. Those wishing to attend but not take part in the snowball hunt at Okaw Valley can buy a ticket for $15 instead. This event will be limited to 200 participants; reservations won’t be completed until admission has been paid for. St. John's has served Christ and the New Athens area since 1878. Ministries include New Beginnings Daycare, Christian education, and a strong missional outreach through Church Emergency Services of New Athens. Traditional worship is at 8 am, with contemporary worship at 9:15 am. Sunday School classes begin at 9 am.
