Girls Soccer Team Shows Love and Support to MHS Alumni Team Captain Medfield is known for its sense of community and school spirit. This spirit was evident on Tuesday, September 22nd when Maddy Howard, a 2009 Medfield High School alumni and former MHS Soccer Captain, was honored at the Medfield vs. Ashland Varsity soccer game on the turf field. Maddy was recently diagnosed with Stage IIIA Small Cell Ovarian Cancer, a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer with less than 500 cases in history. Just as a player steps up at a crucial moment and scores the winning goal, the Varsity Captains and their Moms, the team, Medfield teachers & staff, fellow 2009 classmates, MHS alum soccer players and Medfield residents showed up to support Maddy. As students and spectators arrived, they were greeted by the Soccer Captains' Moms manning a table covered in a bright teal colored tablecloth. In lieu of any gate admission, they welcomed donations toward a GoFundMe page set up for Maddy. The Captains' Moms were also giving out bracelets and ribbon shaped stickers, all in TEAL, as teal represents support for Maddy and others fighting ovarian cancer. The coaches donned TEAL sweatshirts to show their support as well. The Go Fund Me page was organized by Gabi Koshgarian, which will greatly help Maddy with medical costs. Signage on the table read "Med Soc is a Family" and the atmosphere on and off the field felt much like a family reunion. Prior to the start of the game, Maddy was escorted to the center of the field where she was greeted by Coach Michael Lafrancesca, who was Maddy's coach in 2009, and Team Captains, Morgan Reilly, Maya Hilvert and Annie McCarthy. The Captains presented Maddy with hugs and gifts of love and support. Additional support and funds are welcome, please consider making a donation to the Go Fund Me Page .
