MOUNT VERNON, NY — A fire late Tuesday night continued to flare up from hotspots but was contained before spreading to other businesses.
Firefighters worked to control the massive blaze at Mozza Restaurant at 95 Gramatan Ave. in Mount Vernon late into the night. Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, who was on the scene said that both of the city's ladder trucks were pressed into service to fight the flames.
No injuries have so far been reported.
"This is the second fire today," Patterson-Howard said in a 5-minute-long video posted to social media. "We had a residential structure fire on Cedar Avenue and now we're here on Gramatan Avenue at Mozza. Our fire department has two ladders up right now, fighting it from above. The guys have entered in so we're fighting the fire from multiple angles. It's been a very long day for our firefighters."
According to Westchester Fire Wire, this afternoon's house fire was at 35 East Cedar Ave., reported shortly after 1 p.m.
