Introduction to collecting and illustrating botanical specimens, held in the historic Plastic Club's garden. Maximum 10 students. Workshop Fee: $10+ Botanical illustration is a way to deeply connect with nature, resulting in a greater appreciation for the breadth of variety and beauty to be had for very little investment. Join illustrator and Plastic Club member Carla Stine in the Club’s garden as she leads a two-hour introductory workshop on collecting botanical specimens and making accurate renderings using watercolors. Multiple techniques will be demonstrated, with examples and take-home hand-outs. Undertake your own illustration adventure while enjoying the outdoors with fellow artists. This workshop is open to beginners, advanced watercolorists, and everyone in-between. Please note that masks are required to use any indoor area of the club. Rain location: The Plastic Club studio. Maximum enrollment: 10 What to bring: Leaves or other small plant parts (we will also have them on hand). You will need three Brushes and ideally a fourth, as follows: #0000 (aka 4/0) or similar size Round, a #0 Round and a #4 Round; an additional #6 Round will be helpful. Inexpensive student-grade brushes will be available for cash purchase at the class (budget $3 for each). $10 cash or check (made out to "The Plastic Club"); more for brushes if needed. Optional: We will provide Paper and Watercolors to share, but you are welcome to bring your own. We will use 140lb hot press watercolor paper and the following watercolors: Ivory Black, Sap Green, Chromium Oxide, Cadmium Red, Ultramarine Blue, New Gamboge Yellow, White Feel free to bring your preferred cups and palettes. We like empty yogurt containers and lids for this and will have enough to go around. Nearby art supply stores: Artist and Craftsman Supply (307 Market St.). Plastic Club members receive a 10% discount. Blick’s Art Materials at 1330 Chestnut Street, a short walk from the club.
