National Symphony Orchestra To Perform At New Capital One Hall

TYSONS, VA — On Tuesday, the National Symphony Orchestra announced an upcoming concert series at the new Capital One Hall in Tysons. The National Symphony Orchestra series is among Capital One Hall's lineup local arts groups, touring artists, and Broadway productions. The four-concert series will begin in November. "We are excited to partner with Capital One Hall to share a diverse range of conductors, artists, and programs with audiences in Northern Virginia," stated National Symphony Orchestra executive director Gary Ginstling. "The NSO has made a concerted effort to regularly perform in spaces outside of the Kennedy Center — from our annual "In Your Neighborhood" program to our series at The Anthem in Southwest D.C. — so that we can meet audiences where they are and better serve the region." Capital One Hall opened on Oct. 1 as a performance venue, space for Capital One corporate events and rentable space for private events. Located at 7750 Capital One Tower Road in Tysons, the performance venue is on the Capital One headquarters campus along with The Perch beer garden and park on the 11th floor, a Wegmans store and Watermark Hotel. The National Symphony Orchestra series will begin with a Nov. 5 Bach and Haydn program led by Nicholas McGegan. The program will include Johann Sebastian Bach's "Orchestral Suite No. 4," Georg Philipp Telemann's "Suite in F major," and Joseph Haydn's "Symphony No. 98." The next show on Feb. 4 will feature Gemma New conducting Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis," Jean Sibelius' "Symphony No. 5," and Missy Mazzoli's new Violin Concerto featuring superstar violinist Jennifer Koh. On June 10, Grammy Award–winning pianist Emanuel Ax will join the orchestra for Ludwig van Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No. 4" led by Marek Janowski. The performance will also include Brahms' "Second Serenade" and "Tragic Overture." The last of the four shows will be June 24 with NSO principal Pops conductor Steven Reineke for "A Celebration of John Williams." "This dynamic arts and entertainment destination has received accolades from our community during the inaugural performances, and its world-class acoustics will provide the perfect setting for the stature of the NSO's talent and beautiful music," stated CapitalOne Center managing director Jonathan Griffith. The National Symphony Orchestra is one of the more well-known local arts organizations using the new venue. A public-private partnership between Capital One and FairfaxCounty is allowing local nonprofit arts organizations to get discounted rates to utilize the space. Aside from the main theater seating around 1,600, Capital One Hall has a smaller black box space. All shows are scheduled for 8 p.m. with tickets priced from $29 to $99. Attendees over age 12 must show proof of full vaccination at least 14 days before the performance or a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the performance.
