Description

Herndon Village Network provides area senior citizens transportation for doctor appointments, grocery shopping, and many other important activities. This allows seniors to age in place, and it also helps them to remain active in and connected with the community. The nonprofit also keeps senior citizens connected in other ways, like its recent COVID-friendly ice cream socials. Near the end of September, the nonprofit hosted three small, socially-distanced ice cream socials at Arbor Terrace Senior Apartments, Herndon Harbor House, and Kendrick Court Senior Apartments. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Fall with an ice cream from Scoops2U! "Isolation for senior citizens is a real issue, and the pandemic has only exacerbated the problem," shared Penny Halpern, President of the Herndon Village Network Board of Directors. "In addition to providing transportation, we keep seniors connected to each other and their community by offering opportunities to engage in a variety of enriching activities." Herndon Village Network thanks Scoop2U and its volunteers who supported the socials, and it always welcomes new members, volunteers, and support.
