ANNAPOLIS, MD — Police said a student escaped an attempted kidnapping last Wednesday outside Wiley H. Bates Middle School in Annapolis. The attempt came around 3:30 p.m. when the girl was walking along Spa Road toward a city bus stop near the school. The student told officers that a man tried to grab her before driving away in a turquoise car. The girl fled and called her mother, who then dialed a teacher through the Google Voice application. The teacher and another employee went to help the student, bringing her back to school and notifying authorities. "The Annapolis Police Department and the Anne Arundel County Public Schools are working together on this incident," the law enforcement agency said in a press release, adding that nobody was hurt. "Please urge your student to be cautious and aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to a responsible adult immediately." Detectives asked anybody with information to call (410) 260-3439. Tipsters can stay anonymous by dialing 1-866-7LOCKUP, visiting metrocrimestoppers.org, or using the P3 Tips mobile application.
