Press release from the City of New Orleans: October 9, 2021 NEW ORLEANS — Today, the City of New Orleans announced that effective immediately, it will temporarily shift to once per week solid waste collection in Service Areas 1 and 2 to bring a level of consistency to residents. This approach will effectively enable twice the number of trucks to operate in the designated area on each service day. "Our emergency solid waste collection contracts are progressing well, but our team continues to focus on other complementary solutions," said Director of Sanitation Matt Torri. "We are collectively beginning to see the progress on the ground, but it's time to bring some predictability so that our residents can better prepare for their trash collection. We are confident that this temporary move will help to get us back on track and result in the same amount of trash being picked up once each week." Contractors will collect the City issued 95-gallon roll cart, recycling cart (filled with household trash), personal cans, up to six trash bags and eligible bulky waste items at each weekly collection. Service Area 1 and 2 are currently serviced by Richard's Disposal, Inc. and Metro Services Group, LLC, respectively. Beginning on Sunday, October 10, more detailed information about the new collection schedule will be available at https://nola.gov/sanitation/schedules/.
