JERSEY CITY, NJ — The Jersey City Police Benevolent Association offered its endorsement in both the governor's race and Jersey City's mayoral race.
The union endorsed Governor Phil Murphy and Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop for re-election. In a statement, the union said it applauded Governor Murphy and Mayor Fulop for restoring trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve while prioritizing support for police officers across the city.
"We appreciate Governor Murphy's full contribution to the pension fund and commitment tocontinuing that progress, as well as the common-sense step of ensuring that experienced lawenforcement professionals have a seat at the table when discussing criminal justice reforms," saidDetective Joseph Cossolini, President of the JCPOBA. "We also applaud the Governor'sleadership in steering our state through this unprecedented public health crisis. Police officers, aswell as the community at large, will benefit from his continued leadership, and we are proud toendorse him for reelection."
Cossolini added, "When the Mayor faced mounting calls to slash the police budget, he remained firmly rooted in a realistic approach to public safety by hiring more police officers than any other mayor in recent memory."
The JCPOBA is composed of more than 700 police officers employed by the City of Jersey CityPolice Department.
