Press release from the Hamilton East Public Library: October 8, 2021 Practicing gratitude and positivity has been found to have a profound effect on the human brain, helping us make happiness a habit. When we focus on the positive our reality becomes more positive. Gretchen Rubin, Habit researcher and author of The Happiness Project, says, "We can use decision-making to choose the habits we want to form, use willpower to get the habit started, and then – this is the best part – we can allow the extraordinary power of habit to take over." HEPL celebrates the Season of Gratitude this year by offering programs that incorporate kindness, gratitude and positive affirmation. These programs will be held for a variety of ages groups and in a variety of formats – independent, in-person, and virtual. Ema Tags Project | Ongoing All ages are invited to participate in the Ema Tags project, Ignite Studio's November DIY activity in collaboration with Artist Jeanette Pomeroy Parssi. Crafty Teens: Duct Tape Zip Bags | November 2 at Noblesville and November 4 at Fishers Sharing is a heartwarming way to show kindness and gratitude. Teens can make two no-sew zip bags using duct tape at the November Crafty Teens meet-up and share one with a friend! Fill Your Heart with Gratitude | November 6 and November 22 Decoupage words and images of gratitude onto a hang-able gratitude heart you can take home in Ignite Studio at the Fishers Library. Journaling with Gratitude | November 10 Adults can learn to Journal with Gratitude from Chantel Massey, Indiana-based author and poet. She will teach affirmative writing techniques at the Fishers Library. Personalized Thankful Tree | November 18 A Thankful Tree is the project for the November virtual craft class for adults. Gratitude Tree Collaborative Art Project | November 20 Families will enjoy taking part in a Gratitude Tree collaborative art project at the Noblesville Library. Gratitude Grams | November 21 Adults and teens will enjoy this in-person crafting/discussion mash-up on the topic of gratitude. You may bring blank "Thank You" cards to use or to share. Drop in or stay and create the whole time. Meditating on Gratitude: A Method of Developing a Peaceful Mind | December 1 An opportunity to meditate on gratitude will be offered virtually for adults. Crafty Teens: DIY Snow Globes | December 2 at Fishers and December 7 at Noblesville At the December Crafty Teens meet-up, teens can create their own wintry wonderland in a Snow Globe to keep or to give to someone they are grateful for. Virtual Stitch-a-Thon | December 5 Bring your project to a virtual Stitch-a-thon to join a community of stitchers for a virtual meet-up. Gratitude Rocks! | December 7 at Fishers and December 9 at Noblesville During December teens will have the opportunity to paint gratitude rocks with positive affirmations to keep for themselves, place in the community or share with a special person. Gratitude Card with Teaching Artist Devonna Miltenberger | December 11 at 11 a.m. and December 11 at 2 p.m. Learn calligraphy with artist Devonna Miltenberger, who will teach adults and teens how to write words and phrases to personalize a card with a handwritten note of gratitude. Circle City Ringers Concert | December 11 All ages will enjoy a free concert by Circle City Ringers at the Fishers Library from 3-4 pm. Music is a great way to bring joy and positivity to your life! Genealogy Roundtable: Focus on Genealogy Kindness | December 14 Genealogists will talk informally about the collaborative nature of Genealogy research at the December Genealogy Roundtable.
