Welcome to the Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Wednesday October 13th, 2021! First, today's weather: Plenty of sunshine, but cool. High: 69 Low: 48. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: No more excuses! The city opened up a new fitness space at the Oak Park Community Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard that was designed for older adults. The new outdoor fitness park has 11 exercise machines, including an elliptical trainer, two cardio steppers and a place for curl-ups. I'm loving that free classes led by certified fitness instructors will be available later this fall! A little instruction (and peer pressure) makes it so much easier to get a good workout in and the fall weather will make for a beautiful Sacramento experience! (KCRA3) Can you help warm up a cold case? There could be a reward in it for you! Allan Olvera was a Miwok man who was killed the night of Oct. 11, 2001. Olvera was beaten to death, his home was burglarized and several items were stolen. His family is still trying to get a break in the case and there is still a reward for information leading to an arrest. Olvera had a big impact in the Sacramento area, helping to start one of the first Native American health programs in the region as well as working with young people in the Native American community. Contact the county sheriff's office if you have any information about Olvera's death. (KCRA3)Folsom Police Officer Paul Rice and Detective John Triplett testified at a preliminary hearing Friday in Sacramento County Superior Court, describing how Karen Marie Hughes was found with various drugs, paraphernalia, a stun gun, a switchblade, and identifications belonging to other individuals. At the conclusion of the preliminary hearing, the judge ruled that Hughes would stand trial for all charges brought against her, except for possession of the switchblade.
