ASBURY PARK, NJ – Governor Phil Murphy was in attendance at an indoor event in Asbury Park last week and was seen not wearing a mask, along with most of the people in attendance. Murphy was in town for the Equality Ball, hosted by Garden State Equality at Asbury Lanes this past Thursday. Various dignitaries, including Rep. Frank Pallone and the Acting Attorney General of New Jersey, Andrew Bruck, were in attendance at the event, which is the biggest annual fundraising event for Garden State Equality. Honored to join LGBTQ+ trailblazers and advocates at @GSEquality's Equality Ball in Asbury Park. Leaders like Christian Fuscarino and David Mixner pave the way for future generations and embody New Jersey's strength. pic.twitter.com/BY0xrLDNXO— Phil Murphy (@PhilMurphyNJ) October 9, 2021 Tweets from the event show that Murphy, along with others, was not wearing a mask at the event. According to Garden State Equality's website, masks were not required but proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test taken 48 hours before the event. Murphy not wearing a mask at this event goes against what is being currently recommended by the CDC and also what was recommended back in July by both him and Judy Persichilli, the state's Health Commissioner. "At this point, given where our metrics are now, we feel the best course of action is to strongly encourage every New Jerseyan, and every visitor to our state, to take personal responsibility and mask up indoors when prudent," Murphy and Persichilli in a joint statement back in July. Tonight, I was honored to join @GovMurphy along with LGBTQ+ advocates, community members, and public officials from across New Jersey for @GSEquality's annual Equality Ball. Proud to be part of a community committed to equal justice for every resident of this state. pic.twitter.com/mrLbcjCv8M— Acting AG Andrew Bruck (@NewJerseyOAG) October 8, 2021
