JOLIET, IL — A 19-year-old Joliet man who was arrested by Joliet police last weekend on gun charges is no longer in the Will County Jail after posting 10 percent of his $10,000 bail.
Joliet police arrested Nikolaja Diaz on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition, having an invalid Firearm Owner's Identification card and marijuana possession. Diaz lives in the 200 block of Oscar Avenue.
The traffic stop that led to his arrest happened around 7:40 p.m. on Oct. 8 near the 300 block of Grover Street.
"Officers identified Diaz as a passenger in the vehicle," Joliet police reports show. "During the traffic stop, officers observed a handgun on the front passenger floorboard, where Diaz had just been seated."
Joliet officers arrested Diaz without any problems and his loaded .40 caliber handgun was recovered by police, authorities said.
"Upon search of Diaz, officers recovered cannabis in his pocket," police reports showed.
