UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Upper East Siders looking to satisfy their glazed-doughnut hankerings need not leave the neighborhood: Krispy Kreme is officially open for business on Lexington Avenue. The new shop, on the busy corner of East 86th Street, had its official ribbon-cutting Tuesday morning. The 400-square-foot space is Krispy Kreme's 10th location in the city and sixth new shop to open this year, as part of an expansion into the five boroughs. (Courtesy of Krispy Kreme) It's not the chain's first rodeo on the Upper East Side, however: another shop on Third Avenue between East 85th and 86th streets closed years ago as the chain's presence shrank in New York, eventually dwindling down to a single Penn Station location before the recent comeback. Those on hand for Tuesday's opening included City Councilmember Ben Kallos, who cut the ribbon alongside shop employees. It is open daily: Sunday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday-Saturday from 7 a.m. to midnight.
