Assistant Greenhouse Grower Nourse Farms, Inc. is a small fruit nursery focused on the production of high quality strawberry and raspberry planting stock through the use of micro-propagation. Nourse Farms has approximately 4 acres of greenhouse space used primarily for the acclimation of micro-propagated plants and maintenance of mother plants. Nourse Farms is located in the Connecticut River Valley of Western Massachusetts. Our main greenhouse facilities are in Whately and our secondary facilities are located in Northfield. Job Description Nourse Farms, Inc. is looking for an Assistant Greenhouse Grower to join our team of plant care specialists at our Northfield location. This position directly reports to the Head Greenhouse Grower in Northfield, MA as well as the Greenhouse Manager with primary responsibilities being the daily care of all plants in and around the facilities at Nourse Farms’ greenhouse facilities. This is a hands-on, year-round position with weekend time required. Initially your shedule will include on the job training and supervision to assist in building knowledge of our systems and learning the ropes. The successful applicant must have the physical ability to carry out the job, wear personal protection equipment including a respirator, manage hoses, move plants, be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in all weather conditions. Previous greenhouse experience required. Duties to include: · Maintain appropriate growing environment for all greenhouses including heating, cooling, ventilation, fog, lights, etc.; · Troubleshoot and make corrections to mechanical environmental systems throughout the day to ensure continual optimal growing conditions; · Complete a daily watering routine; · Scout and report on disease, insect or environmental problems and address when found; · Spray and apply fungicides, insecticides, fertilizers and herbicides, as well as biological predator applications according to schedule dictated by Greenhouse Manager; · Maintain detailed and accurate records of all applications; · Support greenhouse team in other activities as assigned by Greenhouse Manager; · Be a strong, communicative, dedicated, humble, hardworking, member of our team.
