Taste Virginian History as Pitmaster Alex Bazemore along with Southern Grit Founder Fitz cook whole hogs the Virginian way. Taste Virginian History as Pitmaster Alex Bazemore and Southern Grit Founder Fitz cook two whole hogs the Virginian way (in dug pits over wood coals) at Big House Farm in Chesapeake Virginia on Saturday October 16th. Southern Grit and friends will be live streaming the private cook from Big House Farm starting in the morning and featuring Food Writer Debra Freeman and other guests discussing the historical precedent and significance of Virginia Barbecue and African-American Pitmasters of Virginia. Later in the afternoon, upon the completion of the cook (between the hours of 5-7pm), those who reserve their spot will be able to pick up portions of the barbecue at Southern Grit's friends culinary academy, Now You're Cooking Culinary Studio in Chesapeake.
