This workshop is designed for educators and staff of museums, libraries, schools, and other education institutions.
Leap into Science is a national program developed by The Franklin Institute, designed to build interest and skills in science and literacy for children ages 3 – 10 and their families in community settings like libraries, museums, and out-of-school time programs. Learning is achieved by integrating open-ended science activities with children’s books to highlight critical thinking skills that are important in both science and literacy. Leap Into Science programs provide opportunities for youth to think like a scientist by making observations and predictions, testing ideas, and learning from something that may not have worked as planned.
This training will be led by staff of the Missoula Public Library and spectrUM Discovery Area. It will provide you with the tools and skills you need to provide a Leap Into Science "Light and Shadow" workshop for your audiences, whether that is preschool, elementary, or families. By participating in this training, we ask that you provide at least one Leap Into Science Workshop for your audiences by spring 2022.
We ask that you bring TWO staff members to this training if possible.
By participating in a Leap Into Science Training, you will receive an Amazon gift card for supplies you will need to offer these Light & Shadow workshops.
Since 1894, the Missoula Public Library has been working to provide programs, materials, and services to meet the informational, cultural, recreational, and educational needs of its patrons in Missoula County. Much has changed in the intervening years but two things have not changed: the library’s commitment to providing useful and relevant materials and the staff’s commitment to providing great service.
