SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott residents with unused medications in cream and liquid form — including pet medications — are invited to drop them off at the Swampscott Police Station through Oct. 23 as part of the National Drug Take Back campaign. Drug Take Back Day is Oct. 23 at the police station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but police said they will take back the creams, liquids and pet meds for the two weeks leading up to that day. No needles and sharps will be accepted. Residents can always turn in unused medication in pill form at the police drop-off box at the CVS. Unused medications left around the house can be consumed by unknowing minors, pets or be re-sold on the streets. It is not recommended that prescriptions be thrown out in regular trash or flushed down the toilet because they can find their way into groundwater supplies.
