WAUKESHA, WI— An elementary school gym in Waukesha will be named after a coach and teacher who died of ALS, according to a news release from the School District of Waukesha.
The district will celebrate the renovation at 2 p.m. on Oct. 21 at Lowell Elementary School.
The new facility will be named "The Steve Carpenter Gymnasium", in honor of the longtime health and physical education teacher – Steve Carpenter.

Steve impacted literally thousands of youngsters and adults during his 35 years as a dedicated and caring physical education teacher and coach," the district said.
Carpenter died from ALS in 2010.
The Steve Carpenter Scholarship was funded through the contributions of his family, friends, and supporters.
"The Carpenter Gymnasium at Lowell Elementary School, now completed, is a fantastic facility, created in Steve's honor. This gymnasium will become a health and wellness, arts, athletics, and recreation hub for all ages in the community," the district said.
Partnering with the School District of Waukesha, the Lowell PTO, the Waukesha North Booster Club, and the Steve Carpenter Scholarship Fund, the Gymnasium was renovated with new flooring, baskets, and a specialized sound system, the district said.
