WEST HAVEN, CT — The 2021 municipal election is heating up in West Haven with plenty of races on the ballot. Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 2 and cast their ballots for the position of mayor, along with seats on the City Council, Board of Education and more. West Haven Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as election day draws near. Carol Soter, 82, is running for election to the West Haven City Council in the 2nd District as a Democrat. Occupation: Real Estate Broker Family: N/A Experience: No Family in government: No The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: The most pressing issue in the City of West Haven is procuring more economic development. People are anxious to see the Haven project finished. We need to make sure we revitalize the beach and mitigate against flooding. I would like to also see Yale and New Haven University become more active with the Audubon in maritime biology. West Haven has over 350 species of birds and I want a nature center along the shore for the children. Critical differences between me and my opponents: Critical differences: --Excellent people skills and public relations. --maturity --Long time business owner --Knowledge of natural ecology and a Master Gardener --long-time resident in community --very involved in new group formations/public service -- BS degree in Sociology/Psychology (Magna Cum Laude) --former court guardian ad litem in New Haven Accomplishments: --Formed West Haven Watershed Restoration Committee --Beautification Committee (member) --Land Trust (member) --Business Owner of Quality Rental --Years of experience working in customer service/problem solving etc. --Have good working relations with police, city hall, and and all aspects of WH government. Other issues: West Haven has an aging population and many of their needs still need to be addressed. They have lots of issues including infrastructure problems which are federal. The mayor is eager to help them get resolution aided by good city support. What else would you like voters to know about you? That I am honest and a fighter for what I believe in. I keep my promises and never pretend to know something that I don't but try to find answers. I believe that West Haven is in the best hands having Nancy Rossi as mayor and I am honored to have been chosen by the Democratic Town Committee to run as a council person. Although I have worked hard for years for the betterment of West Haven and this is the first time I have ever wanted to be a part of formal politics This is because I want to assist Nancy Rossi in achieving the wonderful goals she has set for our community.
