HERNDON, VA —Julie Perry is teacher who lives in Herndon with her husband Mike Perry. She is also the Republican Party candidate running for the open seat in the 86th District of the Virginia House of Delegates. During the Nov. 2 general election, voters living in the 86th District, which covers Herndon, Oak Hill and Chantilly in Fairfax County and parts of Loudoun County, will have a chance to decide whether Perry or Democrat Irene Shin will serve in the next session of the Virginia General Assembly. Early voting is already underway. No Education Masters in Education from WVU Occupation Public school history teacher, 3 years. Previously, special education teacher, 4 years. Previous or Current Elected or Appointed Office None Why are you seeking elective office? I'm running because state education policies coming from the state Department of Education, which are backed by the Democrat Party majority in the General Assembly, do not reflect the values of the Virginia's localities. Education is the most pressing issues facing our district and this is what I intend to do about them. Return education decisions to the localities and the parents. What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post? I am a public school teacher. I bring a perspective to education policies that other candidates do not have. Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform. More choices in education (charter schools, advanced schools); minimum wage of $15 in Northern Virginia immediately with a minimum wage determined by regional economy; on reducing food and plastic waste; and maintaining the current level of state taxation. What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job? Cutting government spending, protecting individual liberty, and ensuring election integrity are among my top priorities. The best advice ever shared with me was: My grandfather taught me it takes a lifetime to build trust, but only a moment to lose it. What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions? My husband and I enjoy supporting the different small businesses in this area. We love to eat local and we really appreciate that the 86th District has so many diverse choices.
